Satan attempts to control your thoughts, but you do not have to let him.
Fear is an inevitable part of life, but we can control our thoughts. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Our thoughts shape who we are. Before we act, a thought must first be in our mind.
The Bible further instructs us in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 that we do not wage war as the world does; instead, we have divine power to demolish strongholds and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
A stronghold refers to incorrect thoughts and perceptions that contradict God’s truth. Though it’s challenging to let go of worldly thinking, God’s power can break down these strongholds. Our thoughts, though unseen, have significant impacts:
● They affect our relationship with God.
● They affect our relationships with others.
● They can affect our health.
Negative or anxious thoughts often distract us from God’s plans. Satan tells us we’re not good enough, that sin is acceptable, that church is unimportant, that following God’s word is too hard, and that we should be perfect or not try at all.
Remember, our thoughts become our actions. We do what we choose to believe. For instance, you sit in a chair because you believe it will hold you. There is immense power in our thoughts and beliefs.
Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Transform your thoughts to fight the battle in your mind. Satan attempts to control your thoughts, but you do not have to let him. When Satan attacks with negative thoughts, you have about five seconds to take that thought captive, or it will take you captive. The devil knows if he can control your mind, he can control you.
Fight for your thought life with:
● The Word of God
● Prayer
● The authority we have in Christ
● The Holy Spirit within us
James 4:7 says, “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” You can’t think two things at once. Choose your thoughts wisely, refusing to let negative ones in. Remember Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

I connected with this devotional so much, and reminds me of a recent conversation I had with another sister. I agree that we truly cannot think two thoughts at the same time, I have to choose and I will always try to think life giving thoughts. When those thoughts come that are not good or lovely, the choice is taking those that are not to the Lordship of Christ. Thank you Alyssa for sharing.
