The alabaster box symbolizes our realization of who Jesus is as we sit at His feet and pour ourselves out.

Reflecting on the woman with the alabaster box, her profound devotion to Jesus stands out. She gave everything she had, recognizing the truth of who Jesus was. Her tears, a testament to her understanding of her worth in His eyes, fell on his feet. She was not just loved, but enough, seen, and beautiful in His sight.
In those days, when a woman reached the age of marriage, her family purchased an alabaster box for her. They would fill it with fragrant oil. When a suitor asked for her hand in marriage, she would honor him by breaking the box and pouring the oil on his feet. We who are in a relationship with Jesus are referred to as “the bride of Christ,” I find this powerful!
Consider the symbolism of the alabaster box, a container designed to be opened only once, requiring intentionality. Once broken, everything within it had to be poured out. This box represents our hearts. It symbolizes realizing who Jesus is when we sit at His feet and pour ourselves out. Every drop of our essence becomes an offering that honors Him, its fragrance accompanying us on our journey.
The scent released was powerful; it would permeate the entire house. Second Corinthians 2:15 says, “For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.”
Our love for Jesus should permeate every place we go and affect everyone we meet. The disciples were indignant when they saw what this woman did. To them, it was a waste. They spoke of how much she could have sold the perfume for, but Jesus reprimanded them. He said that wherever the gospel is preached, what she did would be told in memory of her.
The men who walked and lived with Jesus daily couldn’t give all their hearts to the moment, but this woman gave everything! She knew honoring Jesus was more important than money. God included an unnamed woman in the Bible because she is our example to pour it all out!
