Delay Has a Purpose

"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."

When God gave Joseph dreams of ruling over his family as a teenager, he did not immediately assume this role. The delay was meant to develop his character and leadership skills, preparing him to become second in command to Pharaoh in Egypt. Delay is when something is postponed, which means arranging for something to occur later than initially scheduled.

Often, we view delays negatively. However, Joseph's story shows that delays can be beneficial, serving as preparation and ensuring the right timing. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) says, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." God is the ultimate planner and has a purpose for your vision, family, career, finances, business, and anything else in your life.

For instance, I am waiting to marry the person God has for me. When I was younger, I didn't want to get married. When I finally said yes to God's call to marriage, I thought it would happen quickly. I believed I would meet the person, start dating, and be married within three years.

At the time, I was active in youth ministry, had a great career, supportive friends, and financial stability. I was an excellent prospect for a mate. However, three years passed, then seven, and now seventeen years have passed.

During this process, God revealed areas I needed to improve: learning to love all people, discovering my likes and dislikes, growing in what God has called me to do, and healing from my past. Though I'm still waiting, I now see the purpose in the delay and look forward to the future.

If you are in the waiting season, remember that a delay does not mean no; it means not yet. Remember Ecclesiastes 3:1: Everything has a season. God's timing is perfect.

Here are 4 Key Takeaways:

  1. There is value in delays

  2. Wait for God's plan

  3. Grow while you wait

  4. Wait on God's Perfect Timing

When you finally receive what you believe in, you will understand why the timing was right.

Thank you for sharing this, I like takeaway 1— there is value in delay. Sometimes we miss that because we have our agendas and timelines. We wait, because to everything there is a season. Blessings
