God's call is rarely something we think we can do.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
~Genesis 1:1-2 NIV
Throughout my years of ministry leadership, I’ve often been asked to perform tasks I never thought I could do. Tasks like building impactful church programs when I had limited experience and few resources; creating team trainings from scratch; writing advanced Bible study curricula; or finding solutions for complex ministry problems when other leaders were stuck. I’m not going to lie; it felt overwhelming especially since I often wasn’t sure how to proceed.
But God never leaves us to muddle through anything He calls us to do. So I prayed, sought wise counsel and tactical help, and stepped into the void of the unknown. And I discovered kingdom-building gifts God had tucked inside me that I wasn’t even aware existed.
All through scripture God calls His leaders to step into the unknown: like Abraham’s call to leave home and settle in the foreign land where he seeded the roots of a nation; Moses’s call to lead God’s people out of slavery to an uncharted life of freedom; Joshua’s call to lead God’s people to possess God’s promised land. Each took a leap of faith into the unknown to answer God’s call, and each played a part in God’s kingdom agenda they could never have dreamt up or accomplished on their own.
God’s call is rarely something we think we can do.
Maybe God is calling you to a work that feels exciting, but the path forward seems unclear and overwhelming. Perhaps even “undoable.” As you prayerfully consider His invitation, will you allow His mighty presence to banish fear? Ask Him to replace any anxiety with the anticipation of seeing Him create something special out of what you can’t yet see. Then step out in faith, trust, and obedience. Invite His Spirit to move over the work, then don’t be surprised to find some hidden kingdom-building gifts of your own.
