As we trust God through our grief, He will direct and show us the way that we should go.
Grief is a susceptible topic for most people to talk about. I suffered from the pain of losing my husband four years ago. The pain was like a virus spreading inside of me. My feelings would escalate from fear, anxiety, to uncertainty about how to continue life, and much more. Especially in financial matters, I thought, “How can I survive without him?” I became paralyzed.
We often overthink how to survive without our loved ones. Without realizing it, God has planted something inside us—something we can use to expand. If we are not in these circumstances, we may never be able to discover our potential. I often feel pessimistic about doing what I am good at. I thought I couldn't make money out of it. So, I try to find something besides what I am good at.
There was one time I struggled financially and didn't know what to do anymore. I felt stuck, until I found this verse in 2 Kings 4:1-7 which talks about “The Widow's Olive Oil.” When this widow cried out to Elisha because she was in debt, and her two boys were about to be taken away, Elisha asked what she had. She told him that she only had a small jar of olive oil.
Then Elisha advised her to ask around for empty jars. But if you read carefully, he said, "Don't ask for just a few." It means that he told her to collect as many jars as she could find. After gathering all the jars, she was told to close the door behind her and pour the oil from the small jar into all the jars she collected. She then sold the oil and had money left after paying her debt.
After reading this passage of Scripture, it made me ashamed that I underestimated what God could do with my talent. The lesson in this story is that we should use what we have in us. As we trust God through our grief, He will direct and show us the way that we should go.
